Inquiry into the family law system releases its interim report

The Joint Select Committee on Australia's Family Law System was appointed by resolution of the Senate on 18 September 2019 and resolution of the House of Representatives on 19 September 2019. The committee has released its interim report on 'improvements in family law proceedings'. The 434 page interim report covers the topics of:

  • Australia's family law system;

  • The experience of parties to family law matters;

  • Systemic issues;

  • Legal fees and costs;

  • Delays in the courts;

  • Domestic violence;

  • Parenting matters;,

  • Property matters;

  • Child support;

  • Support services; and

  • Alternative dispute resolution. The committee has been granted an extension to present its final report to the last sitting day in February 2021 (date TBD).
